AAPT broadband
About AAPT
AAPT is part of the Telecom New Zealand Group and currently has a 4% share of the Australian telecoms market using its own voice and data network. It also acquired PowerTel, Australia's second largest telecommunications network infrastructure provider in 2007, making it Australia's third largest landline telecoms operator. The fact that AAPT has its own network infrastructure means that it is a popular option for consumers who only need fixed-line broadband and competitive pricing and consistently good customer service levels add to the appeal. Thanks to AAPT having their own extensive voice and data network in Australia their coverage is impressive, and rivals some of their larger competitors. You'll find that the deals offered by AAPT are ADSL or ADSL2+ and there is a whole array of monthly data allowances that appeal to light, intermediate and heavy broadband users. Perhaps it's because AAPT has it's own network that these packages can also be pretty much 'custom built' to suit those needs, meaning that you're able to get maximum value for money. AAPT don't offer wireless or mobile broadband services, although home users can improve the distribution of their supply around the house by enlisting the services of a wireless router. Nevertheless, any shortcomings on that front are more than made up for by the quality and coverage of AAPT's own broadband network infrastructure.

We have used AAPT's Business Broadband ADSL2 (20GB) for 10 months now and everything was fine until we went over our limit. Then, without any warning at all, we got hit with a massive charge of $110 per extra gigabyte. For anyone who is not aware, AAPT's 20GB Business Broadband package is $121 per month. So you'd assume the charge is somewhere in the region of $6 per GB yet their extra use charge is an outrageous $110 per GB.
So I call up and politely ask what they can do about it. The answer "it's a reasonable charge". Then I ask about the possibility of cancelling "you're tied in". The customer service was incredible, I thought I was talking to someone making a spoof. So we gave up on the phone and tried emailing. All we got was a massive run around, forms sent to us over and over again for us to fill out but no real response to the central question: "How can you possibly justify $110 per GB? And are we important enough to you for you to want to go out of your way to keep us?"
After several weeks of this we finally got a simple reply " Unfortunately we cannot reduce the amount charged for the excess usage, hence charges stand.".
Needless to say we will be cancelling our AAPT contract and moving to one of the MANY cheaper options. I would advise anyone considering AAPT's business broadband package to be very, very sure they know what they're getting into before signing up. Read reviews - aside from the one above I haven't seen a single positive one. -
A really good solid service. I've read a lot of other reviews slating AAPT, but I have nerver had any problems. Good pricing, constant fast connection and helpful cutomer serivce = all good in my book!
