About 3 Mobile
3 Mobile is a brand subsidiary of Hutchison Telecom. The latter company also has a percentage ownership of Vodafone, although the 3 and Vodafone networks are run as separate entities. To make matters a little more confusing, 3 operates its 3G mobile network in a partnership with Australian telecoms giant Telstra, although 3 itself has had a brand presence in the country since 2003.
Currently, the 3 mobile network offers coverage across the major cities including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, the Gold Coast, Canberra, Geelong, Frankston and Wollongong. Overall, the partnership with Telstra means that the 3 mobile network can offer coverage to well over 50% of Australian consumers. HSDPA, which is an enhanced 3G service, was subsequently added improving speed of service with, in some cases where reception is strongest, 3.6Mb being achievable. Following the merger with Vodafone Australia being completed in June of last year and the group operator being referred to as Vodafone Hutchison Australia, 3 Mobile continues to be run as a separate concern. However, thanks to the ongoing partnership with Telstra, consumers can also tap into their GSM/GPRS/EDGE and UMTS networks and this roaming access now helps provide 3 Mobile with almost universal coverage across Australia in available signal areas.
Hutchison also renamed its Orange brand some four years ago, calling it 3 CDMA, but this has since been closed and many customers have been offered migration to 3 Mobile's 3G network. 3 Mobile delivers a variety of different packages to suit varying consumer needs, including contract and prepaid services that come with all of the bells and whistles of fixed-line broadband services. These are further complimented by the added benefit of that collaboration with Telstra, which affords consumers an extra boost of roaming flexibility.

just downloaded a 4.7mb file and it only took 21 minutes 31 seconds, must be the service improvement 3 mobile is bragging about PMSL
-
been using up most of my data allowance just connecting and disconnecting, keep getting disconnected every 5 minutes and when i am connected the speed is less than 10 kbps.

Don't waste your money on 3. I have been unable to acess 3 prepaid broadband from 2 separate locations in and around Bondi Junction. I endorse 'very shabb' 's comments.

3 wireless just doens't cut it. Speeds awful, doesn't even work most of the time, just a complete waste of time and effort. Maybe in future they'll be ble to offer something that actually works but for now I would advise people to wait!
